Did you know that it takes a chemist to make cosmetics? And a chemist is behind many crime scene investigations? If you think about your everyday life, a chemist is behind almost every part!

 

Girls in grades seven through nine are invited to take part in an interactive day of chemistry at the University of Minnesota.

 

 

Who:                 Girls in grades 7 – 9.

What:                Girls will participate in two workshops, solve the crime scene, and watch the demo extravaganza. Participants are required to wear long pants, sneakers, and the eye protection provided.

When:               Saturday, October 22, 2005

                           9:00am – 1:00pm (Lunch will be provided.)

Girls can be dropped off at Smith Hall on the East Bank of the Minneapolis campus between 8:40 and 9:00.  Driving south on Pleasant Street you will see the back of Smith Hall and a sign that says “Chemistry Loading Dock.”  Event organizers will meet girls at the loading dock and escort them to Smith 231  Alternatively, or if you arrive after 9:00, you may escort your daughter to Smith 231. Girls should be picked up at the same location at 1:00pm.

Cost:                 $5 per girl, or $8 for two girls  (cost includes liquid nitrogen ice cream!)

                           Scholarships are available.  Let us know if you need a scholarship.
